Mothers deserve something extra special, don’t they?
We all know motherhood isn’t an easy task. But it is certainly an important one.
A mother raises us, she make meals for us, teaches us, she comforts us in our time of need, supports us in our endeavors, encourages us when we trying something new, cleans up after us when we are young, is a shoulder for us to cry on, a friend to laugh with and most importantly, she loves us unconditionally.
Mothers come in all different shapes, sizes and forms. Sometimes the most important woman in your life is your birth mom. Sometimes it is a mother in-law. Sometimes a sister who helped you raise you. Perhaps an aunt that was always by your side. A devoted grandma. A neighbor. An older friend from church. The mother of your children. Or the woman who adopted you. No matter who it is, they have showed you care and affection through thick and thin.
Homemade Mother’s Day Gift
May is the month to celebrate mothers. In one way or another, whether it is a gift or an action, everyone likes to show their mom some appreciation on Mother’s Day. My mother often likes to receive a gift that relates to homesteading, that being a new gardening tool, something she can use in the kitchen or her favorite, a non fiction book that will teach her something new. Other women prefer to go out to eat or have a home cooked meal made for them. Flowers and cards are often popular Mother’s Day gifts. Another thoughtful gift idea is to give a Mother’s Day gift basket filled with all-natural handmade beauty and body care products.
This DIY gift basket was created with relaxation in mind. Each piece in this gift includes something to relieve stress and pamper mom. You’ll find the ingredients are natural, such as chamomile and lavender, oatmeal and coconut oil, plus they are easy to access or purchase if you don’t currently have them on hand. Scroll to the bottom of this post to discover where you can purchase each material to make this gift basket for mom. Add a personal touch to your gift by printing out the free Mother’s Day card and coordinating labels.

Make mom feel extra special this Mother’s Day with this thoughtful, yet simple do-it-yourself gift basket made with only all-natural ingredients.
Rest & Relax Gift Set
Hydrate & Nourish Body Cream
An incredibly soothing body and facial cream that moisturizes skin and helps mom feel and look her best.
Makes: 4 ounces
Ingredients
2 Tbs (20 g) shea butter
2 Tbs (20 g) cocoa butter
2 Tbs (32 g) organic olive oil
2 Tbs (25 g) organic coconut oil
2-3 drops lavender essential oil
Supplies
4 oz jar such as a jelly canning jar
Directions
Add the shea butter, cocoa butter, olive oil and coconut oil into a pint size mason jar. Set the jar into a saucepan with a few inches of water over low heat until the shea and cocoa butter have melted. The jar acts as a makeshift double boiler.
Turn off the stove burner. Remove the jar from heat and cool for 5 minutes. Stir in the essential oil. Pour the mixture into a heatproof mixing bowl and place in the fridge for 45 minutes or until it becomes set up and begins looking solidified.
Once it has set up, remove from the fridge. Using a hand mixer, whip the coconut body butter until light and fluffy – similar to a super thick whipped cream. Scoop the body cream into a jar and add a label (if using).

How to Assemble a Mother’s Day Gift Basket
- Purchase a small gift basket or gift box from your favorite shop or a thrift store. I found the rustic gift basket in the photo above from Hobby Lobby.
- Fill the basket about 2/3 of the way with either tissue paper, shredded decorative paper, spanish moss or fabric.
- Print out the labels on sticker paper. Or use regular printing paper and adhere the labels with doubled sided tape or a glue dot.
- Add the jarred items and tea bags to the basket. Arrange everything so that they can be easily seen.
- Fill out and sign the back of the Mother’s Day card and place in the gift basket.
