Pizza wasn’t always a thing on our homestead.
Or should I say a popular meal served at the dinner table.
It’s not that we didn’t like it. (Who doesn’t love a slice of hot pizza fresh from the oven?!)
We simply didn’t feel good when we ate pizza. Store bought ingredients. Conventional veggies. Commercially processed white flour.
It was a recipe for disaster.
When we switched over to using freshly milled flour in our baking, everything changed. Things that we once couldn’t consume, were now favorites at meal time. Pizza was one such item.
Local farm raised beef. Homemade pizza sauce. Organically grown veggies. And of course, whole grain pizza crust. Now that was a recipe that not only fueled the body but the tastebuds as well!
Now I can happily say we enjoy family pizza night quite frequently! On those evenings when pizza is on the menu, I mix up the dough and within just an hour it is ready to make anything from thin and crispy to a classic pizza crust or even a Detroit style (my husbands favorite). This fresh milled flour recipe is delightful and will certainly be made over and over again whenever we have a hankering for homemade pizza!
What is the Healthiest Pizza Dough?
“Healthy” is in the eye of the beholder. For some, it may mean a low carb pizza crust or a veggie pizza. However, in my opinion, the healthiest pizza dough is made when you use fresh milled flour. By using 100% whole grain pizza dough, you can be assured that you are getting the most nutrients, vitamins and fiber in every delicious bite! Plus the flavor of using fresh milled grains is unmatched.

When is comes to making pizza dough with whole grains, there are many versatile flour choices to select from.
