Super-moist and packed with flavor, this sugar free banana bread recipe features tender bananas, nuts and a hint of warm cinnamon spice. Freshly milled flour sets it apart from standard quick bread recipes. Just one bite and you’ll want to eat more than one slice.

Banana bread. It’s a family favorite. Serve it for breakfast. Pair it with coffee. Or eat it as a delicious dessert after dinner. There are a variety of ways to make banana bread. Some recipes call for the bananas to be mashed while others like to line the top of the bread with sliced bananas. Many banana bread recipes call for nuts but I’m personally not all that nutty for nuts in my quick bread recipes.

One common ingredient in most banana bread recipes is sugar. Brown sugar, granulated sugar and sucanat are the most popular choices. But what if you can’t eat sugar? Perhaps you’re on a diet. Maybe you have a condition that doesn’t allow you to eat sugar. Or maybe you’re just looking to eat healthier, more nutritious foods. Whatever the reason is, you would like to find a sugarless banana bread recipe.

Well you’ve come to the right place, friend.

This wholesome banana bread recipe is made with no sugar. The ripe, mashed bananas do all the sweetening in this quick bread. Fresh ground flour, a touch of cinnamon and a splash of vanilla provide the bread with a depth of flavor like no other. Rolled oats and sunflower seeds add extra nutrition and a subtle crunch while the large amount of butter helps keep the banana bread soft and moist.

What Type of Banana is Best for Banana Bread?

Banana bread tastes best when you make it with very ripe bananas. This helps to provide the bread with ample banana flavor. For this particular quick bread recipe, you will want to use bananas that are covered with brown spots/streaks and smells quite fragrant.

What Nuts Go in Banana Bread?

Walnuts are one of the most common choices in banana bread. Some recipes call for pecans or macadamia nuts. I personally do not care for the texture of nuts inside most baked good recipes so I opted for sunflower nuts/seeds instead. They still provide a salty pop to the bread without being overly crunchy like a large nut can be.

Can Banana Bread Be Frozen?

Yes! Banana bread can be stashed in the freezer inside an airtight container or sealed plastic bag. Storing the loaf whole, or cut into two halves will help prevent the banana bread from drying out.

How to Make Banana Bread With Whole Grains

Preheat oven to 350° F.

Using a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Set aside.

In a microwave safe bowl, add the bananas. Cover with a lid and microwave for 5 minutes, until the bananas have released their liquid. Remove bowl from microwave and mash bananas using the back of a spatula or a potato masher. Set a strainer over a bowl and pour bananas and liquid into strainer. Allow bananas to drain for 15 minutes, stirring and pressing bananas occasionally. When finished you should have approximately 3/4 cup to 1 1/2 cups of liquid depending on how moist and ripe your bananas are.

Transfer mashed bananas into a large bowl. In a small saucepan over medium heat, add banana juice. Cook, reducing liquid to 1/3 cup. Pour liquid into bowl with mashed bananas. Mix in melted butter, eggs and vanilla. Fold in oats and sunflower seeds or walnuts.

Grease an 8 x 4-inch bread pan. Scrape batter into pan. Bake for 40-45 minutes, until a toothpick or knife inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove bread from oven and cool in pan for 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling. Slice and serve.
