I love a good guarantee.

For instance, when you go to purchase a new smart tv and the salesman assures you that the television is the best of the best and if you don’t like it, you can bring it back no questions asked, guaranteed.

Or maybe you’ve experienced receiving a guarantee when you bought a new washer. Perhaps you have come across it when you sign up for an online subscription service — try our service for 30 days, no hassle, no fees, quit any time, guaranteed.

There are countless things in life that offer a guarantee. But there are even more that do not offer the promise of assurance. And boy does that ring true this year.

Times are uncertain.

A government gone awry. Food shortages. Religious persecution. Ugly laws and mandates. Unpredictable weather. Questionable economy. Strange illnesses. Any of these things can make you feel unsettled.

Maybe today you feel frightened. Maybe you’re overwhelmed. Maybe the “what-ifs” are knocking at your door, trying to consume you.

There is Another in the Fire

Can I encourage you with a story?

“Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like the Son of God.” – Daniel 3:25

Meshach, Abednego and Shadrach were just three fellas going about their business and enjoying life.

When King Nebuchadnezzar made some mighty demands, the three amigos responded with “no thanks, we don’t want to be a part of this”.

The ruthless king decided to punish them by tossing them into a fiery furnace for disobeying his commands. Talk about uncertain times! Their very lives were on the line for standing up for what was right.

Into the blazing furnace they went. All looked hopeless. The end was surely near.

But nope, it wasn’t the end. God had other plans for Meshach, Abednego and Shadrach. 

“Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?” … They saw that the fire had not harmed Meshach, Abednego and Shadrach’s bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them. – Daniel 3:27

God rescued these three men from the flames. He was there with them, right by their side when uncertainty looked them straight in the eye. And they came through the fire, unscathed and without a scratch.

I often wish we as believers would be exempt from difficult circumstances. I am the first to admit, I prefer comfort. But His word doesn’t promise a life without hardship. He promises “He will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus”. – Philippians 4:17-19

Hallelujah! We have a guarantee that the king of the universe will be with us no matter where we go or what situation we find ourselves in. He is with us in joyful seasons, uncertain times, in periods of trouble and in a fiery furnace. Be encouraged that God is with you in everything! May you rest and find peace in Him knowing He is your certainty and security.
